Micro Habits—Your Solution for Those Long-Forgotten Resolutions
Knoxville News Sentinel Letter to the Editor
You set big goals. You had the best intentions. But somewhere along the way, life got in the way. What if the key to real change isn’t massive effort—but small, consistent actions? The Future of Work is Human and The Future of Success is Happiness by Alexia Georghiou reveals how micro habits can reshape your career, relationships, and happiness—one simple step at a time. Are you ready to finally make your resolutions stick? Your future starts now.
Approximately 50% of our happiness is genetic, another 10% comes from circumstances that happen to us, and the remaining 40% is what we do with all of this. That’s where the concept of micro habits—and habit stacking—comes in.
Think of something you do every day, something so habitual that you’re on autopilot. Now, think of something you’d like to change or shift—maybe a mood, behavior, or attitude (yes, yours, not someone else’s). Now, stack a new behavior onto that already established habit.
For example, if the increasing uncertainty in the world has turned you into a constant complainer, that negativity isn’t good for your well-being. So, pick a habit—first thing in the morning, when you brush your teeth, look in the mirror, brew your coffee, or load up your vitamin-packed smoothie ingredients. During these moments, focus only on what is going well.
Repeat this daily. Within 66 days, you will have built a new habit and naturally boosted your happiness meter.
