Many hearts are yearning for revival, a fresh outpouring of God's Spirit to bring transformation and renewal to individuals, communities, and nations. Yet, amidst our longing for revival, it's essential to remember that God Himself is eagerly awaiting our response. As we draw near to Him in faith and expectation, He meets us with open arms, ready to pour out His blessings and revive us with His presence.
"Come close to God, and God will come close to you." James 4:8
As we run the Christian race, we are exhorted to run with endurance, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the ultimate source of our faith. It's not just about starting well, but also about finishing strong, and Jesus promises rewards for those who overcome. Scripture encourage us to triumph over obstacles and challenges, reminding us that victory is assured for those who believe.
In times of weariness and waiting, it's easy to feel disheartened and tempted to give up. Yet, this is not the time to become complacent or lukewarm in our faith. Instead, it's a time to double down and press in, trusting that God is faithful to His promises.
In Hebrews 10:35-36, we are reminded not to discard our confident trust in the Lord, for it holds the promise of great reward. The passage emphasizes the importance of patient endurance in doing God's will, assuring us that by persevering, we will receive all that He has promised.
“So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.” Hebrews 10:35-36
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that without faith, it's impossible to please God. Those who earnestly seek Him will be rewarded. This verse serves as a rallying cry for us to remain steadfast in our trust in God, especially when faced with challenges and uncertainties.
“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." - Hebrews 11:6
Other passages that speak about overcoming and what it means:
1 John 5:4-5: "For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God."
Revelation 12:11: "And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die."
Romans 8:37: “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us."
2 Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing."
Hebrews 12:1-2: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith."
These passages emphasize the importance of persevering in faith, remaining faithful to the end, and ultimately receiving the reward of eternal life and fellowship with God. They remind us that our journey of faith is not just about how we start, but also about how we finish, with endurance and steadfastness in following Christ.
To overcome means to triumph over obstacles, challenges, and the power of evil, ultimately attaining victory through faith in Jesus Christ. It involves trusting in God's promises, relying on His strength, and persevering in obedience to Him despite difficulties. Faith is the key that unlocks the power to overcome, enabling believers to conquer sin, temptation, and adversity in their lives.
In Ezekiel, we are cautioned against starting with righteousness but then turning away from it. This serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of remaining faithful to God throughout our journey.
"When I tell the righteous that he will surely live, but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; because of the iniquity he has committed, he will die." - Ezekiel 33:13
In Revelation, we find promises to the seven churches for those who overcome. These promises serve as encouragement for us to persevere despite weariness and obstacles, knowing that our faithfulness will be rewarded in the end. Here are the promises to the seven churches to those who overcome from the book of Revelation:
Ephesus: "To everyone who is victorious, I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God." - Revelation 2:7

Pergamum: "To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, I will give authority over all the nations." - Revelation 2:26

And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name." - Revelation 3:12
Laodicea: "Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne." - Revelation 3:21
Let us heed the admonishment to endure in faith, pressing on with confidence and hope, knowing that our perseverance will lead to victory and rewards in God's perfect timing. As we wait in anticipation for revival, let us not forget that the river of God is already flowing, waiting for us to immerse ourselves in its life-giving waters. Let us heed the call to draw near to God, knowing that as we do, He will draw near to us, and revival will surely follow.
"There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells." - Psalm 46:4
Ezekiel 47:9 paints a vivid picture of the river of God's presence, declaring, "There will be swarms of living things wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Life will flourish wherever this water flows." This imagery symbolizes the transformative power of God's Spirit, bringing life and vitality to every area it touches.
